Summer lovin’, happened so fast…navigating our relationships in midlife

What’s (‘self’) love got to do with it!? (everything…)

So, this is the ‘mind the gap’ midlife stop off for you, my gift to you this Summer holiday.

It is our relationship with ourselves that is so important. As the adage goes ‘if we don’t put our oxygen mask on first, how can we be in the best possible position to support others’, particularly with all the juggling that goes on during our midlife. Ring any bells? Self-care is a necessity not a luxury. Self-love is the ‘name of the game’ here to support others. If we are holding everyone else up in our family, friendships & relationship, look around, who’s holding you up?

During our midlife, those feelings of a crisis of confidence crop up, questioning our self-identity, loss of connections with ourselves & others, quite often the experienced effect of hormonal fluctuations on our relationships be they with our children, close family, partners, husbands, wives. Are you with me?

So, this is the ‘mind the gap’ midlife stop off for you, my gift to you this Summer holiday.

How do you close off all the tabs open in your head?

The self-love languages are:

1.Affirmations

2 Physical contact

3.Giving & receiving gifts

4.Quality time

5.Acts of service

Physical

Things that make your body feel good & focus on your physical wellbeing

Acts of service

Doing things for yourself that make life easier and more structured

Receiving gifts

Buying gifts for yourself & spending money on things that bring you joy

Words of Affirmation

Giving yourself pep talks & encouraging words by being your biggest cheerleader

Quality Time

Spending time alone, time with your hobbies & doing what you love

In need of some ideas?

Physical Touch: massages, spa days, soft blankets, movement, skin care

Acts of Service: Therapy, cleaning, delegating, organising, planners

Receiving gifts: Going out, make up, holidays, clothes, crafts, investing in yourself

Words of affirmation: positive self-talk, daily affirmations, journaling, self-improvement

Quality Time: Meditation, reading, hobbies, art

So, my gift to you, what will your ‘Summer’ reset look like?

Summer lovin’, happened so fast

What’s (‘self’) love got to do with it!? (everything…)
