Therapeutic Coaching

Why might I need therapeutic coaching?

You might be feeling overwhelmed, lacking in confidence or struggling with the changes and pressures of mid-life.

If you’re unsure how to cope or move forward, it can be helpful to pause and see the bigger picture. Therapeutic coaching helps you understand what’s happening for you emotionally while taking practical steps forward.

This approach combines the psychological depth and emotional understanding of therapy with the purposeful action of coaching.

It’s a powerful blend of insight and direction that supports you through mid-life transitions, strengthens your confidence and sense of identity, and helps you make considered decisions so you can live life well.

I use therapeutic coaching to help mid-life professionals overcome challenges with:

Perimenopause & Menopause

How you might be feeling

“What is this menopause madness? Am I going crazy?”

Many women describe feeling overwhelmed during perimenopause and menopause:

“I feel like an emotional mess.”
“I am losing it at work - how long will I feel like this?”
“Things feel out of my control - I can’t cope - how do I regain my sense of self?”
“My confidence has taken a nosedive, my self esteem is at rock bottom - I feel like I’m losing myself.”

The physical and emotional changes can be disorienting, challenging and, sometimes, debilitating. Hot flushes, fatigue, mood swings, anxiety or brain fog can all feel like they’re taking over your life.

How I can help

As a therapeutic coach, I help you make sense of these experiences and the changes mid-life brings - both the challenges and possibilities.

I’m trained in using the menopause-informed EMBERS model - a trusted and comprehensive approach that integrates an understanding of the physical, emotional and psychological changes of menopause while also considering the broader context of your life.

Together, we’ll work to restore perspective, rebuild self-confidence and identify practical strategies to manage symptoms, reduce stress and reconnect with the person you know yourself to be. You’ll feel more in control and better able to manage the ups and downs of your day-to-day life.

I offer EMBERS® Menopause-Informed Psychological Care, a structured approach designed to support women experiencing the emotional and psychological challenges associated with perimenopause and menopause.

The EMBERS® framework integrates evidence-based psychological approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), with insights from neuroscience and lifestyle medicine.

This approach helps women understand the interaction between hormonal changes, brain health, emotional wellbeing, lifestyle factors, and life context. Through this approach, women develop practical strategies to regain a sense of control over their mind, body, and life during menopause and beyond.

The EMBERS® approach was developed by Menopause CBT Clinic®. Learn more about the EMBERS® framework at Menopause CBT Clinic® You can find me here on the practitioner list.

I’m particularly passionate about supporting women through perimenopause and menopause - whether it’s early, surgical or in your forties or fifties.

Everyone’s experience is different and that’s completely normal. Having lived through perimenopause and menopause myself, I understand what it’s like. I’ve been there - navigating the ups and downs, the challenges but also the possibilities of mid-life - and I bring that real-life insight and empathy into every session.

"I sought Nic’s services because I felt I had reached a point in my life where I needed to reset my life and my goals. I had been struggling with peri-menopause symptoms for some years and these were impacting on my life and work to an extent that that I could no longer see my way ahead.

Nic’s expertise enabled me to listen to my inner-voice and guided me towards reconnecting with my true self. Nic showed great understanding and empathy throughout our sessions, and this allowed us to discuss thought-provoking questions that opened my mind to my broader situation and introduced new possibilities.

I cannot recommend Nic highly enough - I have been able to reach a much happier and contented place as a result of our sessions and feel that this has helped to heal my physical symptoms by reducing my levels of stress as well as gaining new perspectives that are taking me forward into a much more confident future."

Confidence & Self-esteem

How you might be feeling

You may have noticed that your confidence is not what it once was.

Perhaps you’re doubting yourself at work, second-guessing decisions, comparing yourself to others or feeling less assured in relationships. Your inner critic may feel louder and your sense of competence or identity less secure. You find yourself more hesitant, avoiding opportunities or questioning your value and ability.

Low confidence and self-esteem can creep in gradually - often shaped by life experiences, work pressures, health changes or mid-life transitions.

How I can help

Together, we’ll explore how these feelings may have started and what continues to influence them.

We’ll look at the patterns of thinking that undermine your confidence and gently challenge the self-limiting beliefs that are holding you back.

Alongside this deeper understanding, I’ll help you build practical tools and strategies to strengthen assertiveness and self-trust. We’ll find effective techniques and activities that foster a sense of accomplishment - because confidence grows when you take action, follow things through and recognise what you’re capable of. Gradually, you’ll feel more self-assured, have faith in your decisions and recognise what you’re capable of.

Stress & Anxiety

How you might be feeling

You may feel constantly on edge or overwhelmed by the demands of work and life.

Perhaps you find it difficult to wind down, you’re overthinking conversations or decisions, or you carry a persistent pressure to hold everything together.

You might notice physical symptoms too - a tightness in your chest, headaches, disrupted sleep or exhaustion. Even when things look ‘fine’ on the outside, your body may feel tense and find it hard to switch off.

Stress and anxiety can build gradually, especially during mid-life, when professional demands, health changes and family responsibilities often increase at the same time.

How I can help

We’ll slow things down and begin by understanding what’s driving your stress and anxiety.

Once we’ve identified the underlying causes, we’ll explore the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that may shape how you respond when things feel overwhelming.

Through this process you’ll gain greater insight into your triggers and how they affect you. I’ll support you in developing personalised coping strategies and techniques to help you manage anxious thoughts and stressful situations more effectively. You’ll notice yourself feeling calmer, more in control and better equipped to respond to challenges with clarity and confidence.

Burnout

How you might be feeling

You may feel exhausted, flat or detached from work or life.

Tasks that used to feel straightforward now feel unmanageable and even simple decisions can seem overwhelming. You might notice physical and emotional symptoms - tension, headaches, irritability, poor sleep and a sense of ‘going through the motions’.

Burnout can creep up gradually and is particularly common in mid-life, when professional pressures, personal responsibilities and health changes all increase at once. It can leave you questioning your purpose, doubting your abilities and feeling trapped in routines that are making you unhappy.

How I can help

We’ll work together to identify the underlying causes of your exhaustion and where the pressure is coming from - whether it’s overwhelming demands at work, personal responsibilities or unrelenting self-expectations.

We’ll pinpoint practical changes that will help you reclaim your energy and regain a sense of control. From there, I’ll guide you in building the tools you need to protect your wellbeing, set firm boundaries and reconnect with what matters to you. As your energy returns, you’ll feel more balanced, resilient and better able to approach each day with renewed strength.

Conflict

How you might be feeling

Perhaps you’re experiencing tension, frustration or a sense of being constantly on edge at work.

Interactions with a difficult boss or challenging colleague might leave you second-guessing yourself, dreading meetings or feeling unheard or undervalued. You might notice you’ve got less energy or focus and have a lingering unease that continues at home.

Conflict at work can feel isolating and draining, especially when it undermines how competent and valued you feel at work.

How I can help

Together, we’ll pause and reflect on the situation, uncovering the underlying dynamics, pressures and patterns that may be driving the conflict.

We’ll examine how your responses, boundaries and communication style affect the situation, and where you can make changes to help you feel more empowered rather than reactive.

Using this insight, I’ll help you develop techniques to navigate difficult conversations, set healthy boundaries and respond with clarity and confidence. You’ll begin to feel less emotionally drained, more in control of your professional interactions and more capable of remaining composed in challenging situations.

Imposter syndrome

How you might be feeling

You may feel like a fraud at work or in your personal life, worrying that others will ‘discover’ you’re not as capable as they think.

You might dismiss your achievements or find it difficult to accept praise as you don’t believe success is your creation. This can leave you anxious, insecure and hesitant to take opportunities for fear that you will not be able to meet expectations.

Imposter syndrome often shows up during mid-life transitions, career changes or periods of increased responsibility - times when your skills and decisions are under more scrutiny or pressure.

How I can help

We’ll identify the thought patterns, self-doubt and internal pressures that fuel imposter feelings.

You’ll gain insight into where these beliefs came from and why they persist.

We’ll use this awareness to develop practical strategies and tools to challenge self-limiting beliefs and to enable you to accept your achievements. You’ll feel more assured in your capabilities and confident in taking opportunities without fear or hesitation.
